About Genital Human Papillomavirus

Genital Human Papillomavirus is a commonly STD that can affect all parts of the body (usually hands and feet), penis, scrotum, anus, rectum, urethra, frenulum, corona, prepuce, cervix, anal canal and mouth. At women, it appears around vulva or vagina. It can be spread through skin by simple touch and by mucous membrane during the sexual contact. There are also rare case when children are infected during delivery.

HPV is an extremely contagious sexually transmitted virus that can be spread even by intimate objects- underwear or gloves. Sometimes, Human Papilomavirus express itself by pink, red or brown lesions around the infected zone, that appears, single or multiple, after several weeks or months from the infection. They are known by the name of Genital Warts and they usually cause itch, burn or bleed. There are known 120 different types of HPV and some of them can cause even cancer ( 98% of cervical cancers are caused by HPV), that’s why are divided into low-risk and high-risk types. Estimates shows that 80% of sexually active men and women are affected by HPV infection at least once in their lives.

  • - homosexual relationships
  • - organs transplant
  • - avoiding of condom utilization during oral, anal or vaginal sexual relationships

One of the protection way against HPV is represented by a vaccine recommended before the sexual debut. The antibodies level remain high for at least for years after the vaccination. At the first signs of doubts around this infection, is is necessarily a medical consultation and tests.
