Is smoking affecting men`s sexual life?
Yes it does! Not only that smoking can shorten lives, but it seems that more than 40% men who smoke more than a pack of cigarettes a day, have erectile dysfunction beacuse of cigarettes.
One study made on 8.400 men aged 16 to 59 revealed that almost 10 of them had erectile problems for a month or more. More than 25% of them were smokers.
The nicotine from cigarettes is a vasoconstrictor and that`s why he tightens blood vessels and restricts blood flow. Reserches revealed that nicotine damages the arteries. Because men`s erection depends on blood flow, it is easily to understand why smoking affects men`s sexual life.
Another research showed that erectyle disfunctions caused by smoking affect more than 50% men.
Because the nicotine restricts the blood flow, during an erection when quantities of blood flow are under pressure into the penile arteries, an erectyle problem is caused. Because the nicotine also affects the penile arteries, the veins wich drain the penis to become compressed are affected too.
As long as less blood flows into the penis it means that the inflow route is blocked by long term build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries, and do not forget that the nicotine is the one that affects the blood flow!
We could also speak about vasospam, a problem that appears because of the rapid contractions in penile tissue ( caused as an immediate result of nicotine stimulation in the brain) who restricts arterial blood flow into the penis.
Also as a result of nicotine presence in the blood stream, the valve mechanism that traps blood in the penis is impaired. This affection is known as a venous dilation.
The nicotine can cause a reduced volume of ejaculate, a lowered sperm count, an abnormal sperm shape and an impaired sperm motility.
A research showed that only 2 cigarettes could cause a softer erection problem.
It seems like smoking is an important problem for a heart attack, lung cancer, pulmonary disease, and also sexual life.
Let`s not forget that smoking affects too much our life. Let`s not forget that nicotine is a powerfully addictive drug.
