Prevention and symptoms of prostate cancer

For you to understand the prostate cancer, we have to analyse first the prostate organ- a gland that sits bellow the bladder and it is also wrapped around the water pipe or urethra. One of its function is producing the seminal fluid that is then stored in a small gland called the seminal vesicle. In the time of ejaculation, the seminal fluid leaves the seminal vesicle.
Any minor change of prostate health can cause trouble passing urine, because it makes the junction between urinary and reproductive systems at men’s body.
By getting older, the prostate enlarges and this affects the urethra, thing that can make passing urine more difficult. This problems are about a decreased urinary flow, waiting for the flow to start, having an interrupted flow, and getting up at nights to pass urine. Those symptoms does not 100% means that the man is developing prostate cancer, but they are only a way of the human body to show it is getting older. But, with those signals, men have to understand that their risk of having prostate cancer increases.
In our days, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer affecting men after the age of 50. Median age of diagnosis the prostate cancer is around 70 years old.
Still…many older men can suffer from prostate cancer and do not have any symptom or problems. For this, men have only to go and see an urologist at least every six months, and to discuss with him about every minor change or problem that appears. As soon as the cancer is discovered, as much the chances to fight against it, grows.
Can we prevent the prostate cancer? Well- yes, by taking care about our daily alimentation. We have to understand that cancer is the result of some wrong actions. For example, it seems that a rich alimentation with meat, cheese and milk increases the risk of cancer prostate, while fruits, vegetables and grain gives men a great protection against it. Also, by making sport and staying away from the alcohol men can help the body to stay “clean” from cancer.
For most of men, visiting an urologist is not a easy. What is the procedure about? The usual blood test in this case is called “serum PSA”, meaning Prostate Specific Antigen. This kind of test can also be elevated in other situations, such as benign prostate enlargement, urine infections or prostate infection. The urologist will ask you about your general health, because in all body are hundreds of connections between organs. He will also proceed into a rectal examination, an unpleasant but certainly not painful test. In this way, he will assess the prostate, to see if it is smooth, symmetrical and soft- as a normal and health prostate should be. If he will have some doubts about those exams, he will advise for a prostate biopsy. It is usually followed by some discomfort, blood in the urine for several days and also in the semen, for several weeks.
The results will be known in 3 or 4 days.
