The impossibility of conceiving a child is a major problem for a couple, especially when partners wants to have became parents.

Relatively new, the method of insemination with donor semen, offered already the possibility of achieving pregnancy for some hope-lost cases. It became an help for some infertile couples, single women and even for lesbians couples.
Until few years ago, the name of it was “artificial insemination by donor” (AID), but it has been changed because of its similarity to “Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome” (AIDS).
Starting to 1970, the method of donating and freezing sperm became more used.
This method is offered to all persons that want to became parents and they present physical and mental health, but, for some reasons, they can not conceive.
Another reason of appealing to insemination with donor semen is for avoiding getting birth to a child with congenital abnormality, another result of the low quality of sperm.
Before starting the treatment, couple should know all the information about this complex procedure.
Any donor insemination treatment should start with a discussion with a specialist in this domain.
It is good to know that the sperm is very attentively analysed and selected before being used, tested for contagious diseases and genetic disorders. Usually, the semen is tested against gonorrhoea, chlamydia, hepatits B and C and HIV.Also, a major importance has family and medical history, for establishing inheritable diseases.
When a couple that can not conceive decide to use insemination with donor semen, it can decide about the donor’s particularities: eyes color, hair colour, height. Usually, future parents ask for a donor that presents husband’s features.
The couple can ask for the identity of the donor, but the clinic can deny this request- the donor has the option of hiding those informations. Also, he can select a group of persons that can use his sperm: only married couple, only old couple, only rich couple. The can also request for beeing informed about the results of the insemination- number of birth, sex of the children.
More than a medical issue, the insemination with donor semen represents a moral problem, and it should be discussed before the insemination.
The chance of pregnancy for any cycle of the treatment is about 20%, while a couple without any infertility problems have the same percentage of pregnancy.
So, the insemination tehnology can replace the nature.
It is important to know that the insemination will have no side effects on having a normal pregnancy or a normal, healthy baby- pregnancy, delivery, child increasing will be no different than a normal case of conceiving.

- sperm donors are ordinary people, who come from all walks of life
- donors must be aged between 18 and 50, with a good semen analysis
